Job Summary This position is for a motivated research assistant that will help our laboratory in working on the development of a new diagnostic tool which involves spray-on sensing materials. In this role, the assistant will contribute to the project by carrying out chemical synthesis, purification, and formulation of amphiphiles. In addition, they will characterize the formulations for spray-on coatings for detecting exposure to both chemical and physical stimuli. Primary responsibilities will include developing protocols and assays, synthesizing amphiphile derivatives, measuring color response and stability, and providing general laboratory support while maintaining a clean and safe environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop protocols and essays for spray-on sensing formulations to detect chemical and physical stimuli.
  • Synthesize, purify, and characterize amphiphile derivatives for spray-on polydiacetylene formulations.
  • Measure the color response, wear-resistance, and stability for the different formulations of responsive, polydiacetylene-based sensors.
  • Demonstrate commonly accepted standards for record keeping of protocols and data.
  • Provide general laboratory support and assistance in experiments related to this project as well as maintain a clean and safe laboratory.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher and/or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a research laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience working in a research laboratory on chemical synthesis and recovery of amphiphilic compounds.
Other Requirements
  • Must complete UTA safety training first week of start date to work in the lab.
